What are Wildlife Conservation Plates?
In 2018 EcoTour Adventures joined the Wyoming Wildlife Federation, Greater Yellowstone Coalition, Muley Fanatic Foundation and other conservationists to successfully lobby for the passage of a bill creating Wildlife Conservation Plates. The sales of these plates and annual fee help fund projects which reduce wildlife-vehicle collisions on our roads, a major conservation challenge in Wyoming. EcoTour Adventures is proud to have been the first Wildlife tour operator to adopt the plates on all of our vehicles.
Why do Wildlife Need our Help Along Wyoming’s Roads?
Each year over 6000 animals are hit and killed by vehicle strikes in Wyoming alone. If losing wildlife isn’t bad enough, these collisions are dangerous and cause millions of dollars in damage each year. Fortunately Wyoming is working to reduce these collisions through identifying critical movement corridors and constructing overpasses and underpasses which allow animals to safely bypass the road. Projects like these ones virtually eliminate collisions once constructed and eventually pay for themselves as a result. Unfortunately the upfront cost of projects is often difficult to come up with funding for, which is why Wildlife Conservation Plates are so important!
