Tyler grew up in the San Juan Mountains of Colorado. From an early age, he developed a passion for the outdoors and wildlife, spending most of his free time catching insects for his 4H entomology projects and birdwatching with his father. In high school, he became involved in his first ecology project known as River Watch, where he monitored changes in water quality in the San Juan River. From that point onward he became very interested in understanding changes in ecosystems and how those changes affect communities and wildlife.
After high school, Tyler got a degree in Biology from Colorado State University, focusing largely on population dynamics and environmental perturbations. During and after college he conducted studies on endangered grassland birds and disease ecology in amphibians. One of his favorite experiences was encountering moose during surveys for endangered boreal toads in Rocky Mountain National Park.
Away from wildlife guiding, Tyler spends time hiking, skiing, and birdwatching. He is very interested in large mammal ecology, disease ecology, and forest succession. He is extremely passionate about wildlife photography. His dream is to become more involved in the wildlife guiding industry and to guide and explore other regions of the world.
Tyler is a certified Wilderness First Responder.
