Scott Capps

Scott grew up in Southern California with a lifelong passion for weather and the natural environment — a fascination that ultimately led him to earn a Ph.D. in Earth System Science from UC Irvine. Over a 20-year career, he developed operational weather forecasting systems for utilities and emergency managers across the western U.S., and served as lead developer of the Santa Ana Wildfire Threat Index (SAWTI), a tool now used by forecasters to protect communities from one of California’s most dangerous weather phenomena. Drawn by the dramatic skies and dynamic mountain weather of the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem, Scott now calls Jackson Hole home — where he is building a high-resolution weather observation and forecast solution for the Jackson Hole audience, and pursues his love of backcountry skiing, fly-fishing, horseback riding, and landscape photography.
