Summer Bliss: Top Activities to Experience in Jackson Hole

It’s no secret that Jackson Hole, Wyoming is a haven for outdoor enthusiasts seeking adventure, serenity, and natural beauty. While the winter months draw skiers and snowboarders from around the globe, the summer season unveils a different kind of magic in this mountain town. With its stunning vistas, abundant wildlife, and endless array of activities, Jackson Hole offers an unforgettable summer experience. While we think a wildlife safari is not to be missed (can you blame us?), let's explore some of the best activities to indulge in during the warmer months:

Grand Teton National Park

A jewel of the Rocky Mountains, Grand Teton National Park is a paradise for hikers, photographers, and wildlife enthusiasts alike. Take a scenic drive along the park's loop road, hike to hidden alpine lakes, or embark on a gorgeous scenic rafting adventure down the Snake River. Keep your camera ready for a chance encounter with elk, moose, bison, and maybe even a grizzly bear.

Grand Teton National Park boasts a plethora of hiking trails, each offering unique vistas and experiences. Here are a few recommendations:

Cascade Canyon Trail:

This iconic hike begins at the String Lake Trailhead (or take the ferry across Jenny Lake to cut 2 miles off your journey) and takes you deep into the heart of the Teton Range. The trail winds along the shores of Jenny Lake before ascending into Cascade Canyon, offering breathtaking views of towering peaks, alpine meadows, and pristine lakes. Distance: It depends on how far into Cascade Canyon you choose to go. Once you leave Jenny Lake, the trail extends 3 miles back to a junction, where you can hike up either North Cascade Canyon or South Cascade Canyon. The North canyon takes you another 3 miles to Lake Solitude. To get to the lake and back is about 16 miles round trip!

Taggart Lake Loop:

Perfect for hikers of all skill levels, the Taggart Lake Loop is a scenic trek that begins at the Taggart Lake Trailhead. The trail meanders through aspen groves and pine forests, offering glimpses of the Teton Range along the way. Take a break at Taggart Lake to soak in the tranquil surroundings before completing the loop. Distance: Approximately 3 miles round trip.

Paintbrush Divide:

This loop is not for the faint of heart! This strenuous hike starts at the String Lake Trailhead and takes you through Paintbrush Canyon, one of the park's most stunning alpine environments. Marvel at colorful wildflowers, cascading waterfalls, and panoramic vistas as you ascend to the Divide at 10,700 feet, the highest point on the Teton Crest Trail. Descending into North Cascade Canyon, hikers are treated to vistas of serene alpine lakes, including the breathtaking Lake Solitude. This challenging yet rewarding hike offers a true wilderness experience, showcasing the unparalleled beauty of the Tetons at every turn. Distance: Approximately 20 miles as a loop.

Hidden Falls and Inspiration Point:

Accessible via a boat shuttle across Jenny Lake, the Hidden Falls and Inspiration Point hike is a popular choice for visitors looking for a shorter, family-friendly outing. The trail leads to Hidden Falls, a picturesque waterfall nestled in a lush canyon, before continuing to Inspiration Point for sweeping views of Jenny Lake and the surrounding mountains. Distance: Approximately 2.8 miles round trip.

These are just a few of the many incredible hiking opportunities available in Grand Teton National Park. Whether you're seeking a leisurely stroll or a challenging backcountry adventure, you're sure to find a trail that suits your preferences and abilities while immersing you in the unparalleled beauty of the Tetons. Don’t forget to end your hiking adventure with a meal or beverage at Dornan’s Pizza & Pasta Co., a historic, family-owned restaurant in the park with sweeping views of the Tetons!
